Elders and Deacons Nominations 2026

As a church family, we once again submit ourselves — with much prayer, humility, and eagerness — to the process of discerning and affirming God’s calling on some of our men and women to serve as our elders or deacons/deaconesses in Greenhills Christian Fellowship.

Before we nominate or vote, it helps to first understand what these offices actually are. Elders and deacons are biblical offices, given by God to care for and build up the church.

The GCF Election Committee is pleased to announce the opening of nominations for the Board of Elders and Council of Deacons. 

Nominate a Church Leader

Elders are called to shepherd the church. Their responsibilities include:

  1. Looking after the spiritual welfare of families and individual members through prayer and visitation, serving as examples of faithful servant-leadership;
  2. Acting as trustees of the doctrinal statement and by-laws, protecting the church from anything that denies the gospel or undermines its unity;
  3. Overseeing the administration of the ordinances;
  4. Acting as a governing and policy-making body in both ministry and corporate matters;
  5. Overseeing the accomplishment of ministry goals through the church’s ministry teams;
  6. Overseeing the process of calling or removing pastoral staff;
  7. Implementing church discipline based on Scripture and established policy.

Because the office carries this weight, Scripture’s qualifications for an elder (1 Timothy 3:1-13, Titus 1:6-9) focus almost entirely on character: above reproach, self-controlled, hospitable, gentle, and not a lover of money. In terms of skill, they should be able to teach. An elder is someone whose life you already trust — because the church is entrusting him with the spiritual care of the flock.

Qualifications of an Elder:

  1. Clearly demonstrate the spiritual qualifications based on 1 Timothy 3:1-13 and Titus 1:6-9
  2. Clearly demonstrate active leadership involvement in at least one ministry of GCF. Elder nominees must be presently teaching or actively discipling. 
  3. Be a member of GCF in good standing for three (3) years. A member in good standing is someone who is:
  • Faithfully and regularly attending and supporting GCF worship services and ministries, unless prevented to do so under reasonable circumstances; and
  • Not in or has not sought the membership or ministry of another church or congregation by regularly participating in their small or large group fellowships and ministry, which indicates a departure from GCF.
 
Nomination Requirements
  1. If married, consent from the spouse is required in the nomination form. 
  2. The Nominees must have at least two (2) nominations from a GCF member other than their relative within the first degree of consanguinity.
  3. Elder Nominees must be at least thirty (30) years of age.
  4. A nominee for Eldership must have been, for at least two (2) years, actively leading or involved in at least one ministry program where teaching is the primary. 
 
Nomination Limitations
  1. Supported Missionaries and Pastoral Staff of the church shall be restrained from nomination. 
  2. Nominations for eldership of currently serving deacons (and elders for deaconship) who, upon getting voted to their new position, will cut short their current term and prevent them from fully out-serving their three (3) year term will not be accepted.
  3. After two (2) consecutive terms, a one (1) year rest is required before submitting for another nomination.

Deacons serve primarily in the support ministries and administrative matters of the church. Their responsibilities include:

  1. Receiving, counting, and recording all church collections;
  2. Assisting in financial matters such as budget preparation and monitoring;
  3. Assisting in the acquisition, use, and maintenance of church property;
  4. Assisting ministry teams in determining their financial needs;
  5. Assisting in the administration of the ordinances;
  6. Assisting the Church Administrator and Ministry Support Team Heads in finance, facilities, and human resources.

Deacons hold the same character qualifications as elders (1 Timothy 3:1-13, Titus 1:6-9). This is deliberate: how a person handles money, property, and responsibility reveals their integrity just as clearly as how they teach or lead. A deacon is someone the church can trust with what has been entrusted to us.

Qualifications of a Deacon:

  1. Clearly demonstrate the spiritual qualifications based on 1 Timothy 3:1-13 and Titus 1:6-9
  2. Clearly demonstrate active leadership involvement in at least one ministry of GCF.
  3. Be a member of GCF in good standing for three (3) years. A member in good standing is someone who is:
